Episode 3 - Early Education Matters | Maryland Headlines

Welcome, Welcome I'm Asia of AlleyneMedia!

Today I got the chance to go to Bowie State University as Governor Wes Moore joined Vice President Kamala Harris and HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge as they announced their efforts to lower costs for homebuyers. Their plan is gonna help homeowners save about $800 per year. This is gonna be great for those looking to buy their first home with FHA loans. This is awesome but I have a bone to pick with our leaders! Look not that I'm counting or keeping score, but this administration has been to Maryland about 3 times in the last 30 days. I mean maybe we should start charging them taxes so we can finally afford EARLY Education for our kids!

#EarlyEducationMatters Remember the good ol' days when PG County had options for your average 2, 3, or 4-year-old to go to school! You know actual early education! Where as long as your baby is potty trained, you get to drop them off! And it was either for half-day or full-day depending on the age… seems like a forever ago!

Recently, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks appeared on "THE POLITICS HOUR" WITH KOJO NNAMDI. They talked about climate, dumping trash, and how they've built 10 new schools! NONE of them are for early education! Why is this a problem… because

(1) I'm a mom and I wanna drop my kids off.

(2) because I'm paying too much in property taxes to not have public school options for my babies. Yes, I have more than one, so, don’t come for me!

(3) Now here comes official research, -->

Early Experience Matters!!! According to the AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS - "All of a child’s early experiences, whether at home, in child care, or in other preschool settings, are educational. When early experiences are consistent, developmentally sound, and emotionally supportive, children learn optimally and develop resilience for life. To focus only on the education of children beginning with kindergarten is to ignore the science of early development and to deny the importance of early experiences. "Early Experiences Matters!! I don’t want my child to be left behind Gov. Moore! I voted for you, as well as yourself County Executive Alsobrooks!Where are these schools at! One Early Education Center for my region isnt enough! One school for my area isnt enough…. For crying out loud there are over a million people in the county!!! Where are these people's kids going!

School readiness includes the readiness of the individual child, the school’s readiness for children, and the ability of the family and community to support optimal early child development. It is the responsibility of schools to meet the needs of all children at all levels of readiness. In a state where our new Governor has pledged to leave no one behind, to fund education, and make sure that each child feels a sense of belonging in the room they find themselves in… The thing is I think I believe in my governor …. The problem: I can't find options for Pre-Kindergarten in PG County. According to PGCPS (Prince George's Public School), My kid has to meet the below criteria:• meets the income eligibility guidelines• registered with the McKinney Vento Program (homeless)• demonstrates developmental delays or is at risk for developmental delays as identified by an IEP placement*Over-income families will be placed on a waitlist and considered for a seat based on space availability beginning in September 2023; the exact date is to be determined.
